Training in Defense Against Weapons of Mass Destruction and Medical Issues
From August 12 to 16, the National Defence Academy will host a training course led by instructors from the United States Defence Institute for Medical Operations, focusing on defense against weapons of mass destruction and medical issues.
Defense against weapons of mass destruction is closely related to medicine, as the danger to human health and life caused by radiation, chemical warfare agents, and biological agents requires specific knowledge from doctors. The most important measures are quick identification of victims and provision of first aid to people who have suffered from radioactive, chemical, and biological contamination, as well as cleaning victims before taking them to a medical facility. When assisting such victims, medics put themselves at risk and must also consider their protection. The course introduces to the procedures and equipment used in such situations.
The course is for medics of the National Armed Forces and specialists in defense against weapons of mass destruction and the staff of the State Fire and Rescue Service, Emergency Medical Assistance Service, Latvian hospitals, and representatives of institutions.
