The Baltic Defence College Annual International Conferences
The Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosts two annual conferences that are integrated into different course curricula to provide the students with the opportunities to share contemporary scientific knowledge and in-depth expertise in areas covering military history in the Baltics and current political and strategic developments in the region with the specific emphasis on Russia.
The first is the annual Conference on Russia Commencing which has been organized by the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) for already 10 years. The Conference has attracted delegates from the Baltic and allied military community, international institutions, governments, academia, and the private sector to discuss the most pressing issues shaping Russia, its near abroad, and global challenges since 2015. Since establishing the BALTDEFCOL twenty-five years ago and more particularly from the inception of our conference and publications, we have become a hub of knowledge and honed a reputation for unveiling diverse trends related to Russia’s contemporary domestic agenda and external influence. The second is the annual Baltic Military History Conference. It Examines the development of the military thought of small states in the interwar period. This conference is organized by the Estonian War Museum, the Baltic Defense College, and the Estonian Defense Academy. Each conference is serving as an impetus for deeper research and publications. The articles prepared are based on the conference presentations and are published as yearly collections of papers, for example by the Estonian War Museum in cooperation with the Tallinn University Publishing House.
